Why it matters

Accessibility doesn't stop at the website

Organizations with physical locations also need to understand real-world conditions: the entrances people arrive through, the paths they move along, and the facilities they use once they're there.

Entrances and arrival

How someone actually reaches your door shapes whether a location is usable before anyone gets inside: parking, exterior routes, and the entrance itself.

Circulation and doors

Hallways, doorways, and the paths between spaces determine whether someone can move through a location independently.

Facilities and everyday conditions

Restrooms, service counters, seating, and signage are all part of whether a physical space genuinely works for the people who use it.

Across the lifecycle of a property

Not only for buildings that already exist

The same structured assessment process applies to a location that's already operating and to one that's being planned, built, renovated, or improved.

Understand

Establish an accurate accessibility posture

Start with a structured, section-by-section Guided Physical Assessment of a property, environment, or project, so decisions are based on what was actually observed, not assumptions.

Improve

Organize the work that follows

Use the completed, structured record to identify which areas need attention and to organize accessibility work for your own team, architects, or contractors to plan and prioritize.

Implement

Guide planning and construction

Carry structured accessibility information into planning, design, and renovation work, alongside the architects, engineers, code officials, and accessibility specialists who lead that work.

Continuously understand

Keep the picture current

Environments change. Reassess as a property, project, or location evolves, so your understanding of accessibility stays current instead of a one-time snapshot.

How assessments work

Guided Physical Assessments

A structured workflow for recording exactly what's true about a location, built around real conditions, not assumptions.

Start with Context and Applicability

Every assessment begins by recording what's actually true about a location: whether it has customer parking, multiple floors, public restrooms, and more.

Assess only what's relevant

Based on those answers, the assessment shows only the sections that genuinely apply to that location. It never includes a checklist item that doesn't make sense for the space.

Record structured observations

Each item is answered in its own real format: a yes/no condition, a measurement, a selected option. It's never a generic free-text guess.

Capture measurements where needed

Where a real measurement matters, it's recorded directly, with its unit preserved alongside it.

Use honest uncertainty, not guesses

When something genuinely doesn't apply, or truly can't be determined or measured on-site, the assessment records that explicitly. It never fabricates an answer.

Review before completion

Every recorded observation is shown together for review before an assessment is marked complete.

Preserve the completed record

Once completed, an assessment becomes a locked, historical record: exactly what was observed, when.

How it works

Six steps, start to finish

Add or select a location

Start from one of your organization's locations.

Start a Guided Physical Assessment

Begin a new assessment for that location.

Answer Context and Applicability

Record what's actually true about the location.

Work through relevant sections

Move section by section through only what applies.

Review observations

See everything that was recorded, together, before finishing.

Complete the assessment

Confirm completion. The record is preserved from that point on.

Structured observations

Every observation stays explicit and typed

Assessment items are answered in the format that actually fits them. They're never flattened into a generic checkbox or free-text field.

Two additional states exist so an assessor is never forced to guess: Unable to Determine, for when a condition genuinely can't be resolved on-site, and Unable to Measure, for when a real measurement genuinely can't be taken. Both are recorded honestly, never replaced with an invented answer.

Yes/no conditions
A clear, direct condition about the location.
Measurements
A real numeric value, recorded with its unit.
Single-select states
One selected condition from a defined set of options.
Multi-select observations
More than one condition selected where more than one genuinely applies.
Notes, where supported
Additional written context alongside a structured answer.

Accibly does not replace architects, engineers, certified accessibility specialists, code officials, legal counsel, or regulatory inspection. It does not provide certification and does not guarantee compliance.

Where we're headed

Accessibility, understood across digital and physical environments

Accibly started with website accessibility. Guided Physical Assessments are the beginning of extending that same structured, honest approach to physical locations, so organizations can build one consistent accessibility practice across everywhere they show up, digital and physical alike.

What Guided Physical Assessments are and aren't

Guided Physical Assessments support structured accessibility review and practical, operational understanding of a location. They are not a legal compliance certification. As with the rest of Accibly's platform, this is technical guidance, not legal advice.
